Every year when November rolls around I get excited for a few things; big thanksgiving feast, holiday shopping and decorating the house! Each year I reminisce about gathering around the table for Thanksgiving, mouth watering as I smell the mashed potatoes, stuffing, turkey, rolls, sweet potato casserole, corn….(I’m getting hungry just thinking about it!), shopping the next morning with my sisters and mom, and of course, bringing the tree up from the basement. This got me thinking, “I wonder what everyone else gets excited for this time of year?” So I asked the SSP crew to share some of their favorite memories, traditions or food with us….here is what they had to share...
“Stuffing and mashed potatoes are my favorite things on Thanksgiving! Gotta love those carbs!” –Carrie Meyer, Sales Representative
“One year my mom made a pumpkin pie and left it on the counter to cool over night. When we got up in the morning we discovered that the cat had stepped on the pie leaving a purrfect little paw print. Us kids thought it was hilarious, mom… not so much. We also got to use Grandma’s blue glass dishes, so we always had to be extra careful!” – Teresa Smith, Sales Assistant
“The night of Thanksgiving we make turkey sandwiches with the leftovers - Just bread, mayo and warm shredded turkey.” –Jess Geno, Sales Representative
“I always look forward to the day after Thanksgiving…I do some black Friday shopping, set up the tree and decorate the house while listening to Christmas tunes and enjoying some egg nog. It is one of my favorite times of the year.” –Stephanie Garland, Marketing Specialist
“My favorite tradition is the leftover casserole that my mom makes the day after Thanksgiving! It is better than the original meal itself! –Jake McClimon, Sales Representative
“Every Thanksgiving I look forward to my mom’s homemade stuffing and green bean casserole. My mom also makes me my own pumpkin pie because I do not like to share the pie since it is my favorite pie of all time.” – Julie Russell, Sales Representative
“Thanksgiving with my family is always busy, loud, and somewhat chaotic… and I love EVERY MINUTE OF IT. I have four siblings, now all married and with multiple kids of their own… it’s a mad house with aunts and uncles, grandparents, and kids running all over. After the meal is done, and socializing slows down, all the adults and some of the ‘big kids’ enjoy a big family game at the table… we keep the tv off and the holiday music going. It’s a rare occasion that we all get to be together so we make the MOST of our time together!” –Sherri Miles, Sales Assistant
“We get family and friends together on Thanksgiving and do some trap shooting (shooting targets), but we also like getting ready for black Friday!” –Mike Drinkall, Sales Representative
We hope you enjoyed hearing some of our traditions and memories, and we hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday! Safe travels if you are traveling, good luck shopping if you venture out on black Friday and enjoy some good food and time with friends and family.
